Gates managed to defeat President Barack Obama in the second position, including fellow billionaire Warren Buffett and the physicist Stephen Hawking. Gates is admired because he was very generous. He is now better known as a philanthropist workers. Gates donated 17 billion pounds to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to eradicate polio, malaria and measles in developing countries. The third most admired people in the poll was the Russian leader Vladimir Putin, followed by Francis Pope and ranked fourth Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in the top five.
A list of 30 most admired people in the world by YouGov, the top 10 are all male. Women are under-represented in the list. Queen Elizabeth entered ranked 17th as the most admired women, followed by Angelina Jolie and Oprah Winfrey.
YouGov conducted a survey to 13,895 people in 13 countries around the world via the internet and mobile phones. If the survey was conducted a month earlier, Nelson Mandela likely to be included in the list because the news Nelson died much public attention.
The survey was conducted for The Times in the UK, France, Germany, Russia, United States, Australia, Pakistan, Indonesia, India, China, Egypt, Nigeria and Brazil.
